Award-winning shoe-leather reporter seeking full-time position (Boston)

I'm a young, dogged, award-winning newspaper reporter from Chicago, and I’m looking to relocate to the Boston area and continue to grow as a journalist.

In my eight years professional reporting, I have covered hard news, investigations, breaking news and human interest features. I have interviewed major politicians and celebrities, and I have produced smaller slice of life stories. I have worked in the U.S. and in Haiti.

Last year, I supervised a team of reporters who spent four months with homeless youth, documenting their lives in an eight-week print and multimedia series. Recently, I completed a series on LGBT people and the criminal legal system in Cook County, Ill.

I’m looking for a publication that remains committed to original reporting, be it in niche or mainstream media. I have a car and willingness to travel.

I am currently employed full-time as an associate editor, but the bulk of my work has been in reporting and photography.

References and resume are available upon request.

Thank you for your interest.

Community Newspaper Photographer

I have spent the past 30+ years with ink in my blood, and have a full background that includes being a reporter, news editor, staff writer, managing editor and all-around photographer covering everything from fluff events to sports to hard-core news stories. I have spent the majority of the time in Texas, working for several papers and receiving awards from both the Texas Press Association and the South Texas Press Association – even though it is a well-known fact, even here in Texas, that my heart is still on the coast of New England.

I was able to visit up there last summer and have been hoping to return to the coast of NH or Maine to write and shoot for a small paper in that area. I have worked for larger dailies, but prefer small communities where people are still real people. I would be glad to work for a small daily, bi-weekly or even a weekly paper. Though capable, I am not seeking a management position, as I still love the feet-on-the-ground work and my first love is the camera. As an all around journalist, I am also learning InDesign pagination at this time, and have a background in creative design.

Anyone looking to fill a future position may contact me at and I will be glad to send a resume and samples of work.

A run-of-the-mill newspaper job won’t spur me to leave sunny Northern California; it has to be the right opportunity in print and/or online, if there is such a thing anymore.

I have mentored young reporters, copy editors, and freelancers, and have been in charge of major projects from conception to publication. I have used website content management systems to write and post breaking news, photos, info boxes and sidebars on a newspaper website. And I have shot photographs for print and website. My work has been recognized with several statewide and regional honors, and you can view samples of that work on my online portfolio. With experience covering sports at all levels across print and digital platforms, I believe that I can make a great contribution to the sports department of a New England media organization.

I am currently based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, but willing to relocate back to the region I consider “home.” I’m working as both a content contributor for INDYCAR and as a freelancer in live sports TV production. However, I’m looking to return to a proper media role.

My previous experience includes four years as a motor sports contributor for and a three-year run as a Boston Globe sports correspondent -- much of that stint taking place while I earned my journalism degree from Northeastern University. I’ve also freelanced for The News Journal in Wilmington, Del. (2009-10), and served as an intern in 2006 with The Patriot Ledger in Quincy, Mass. My time at the Globe, News Journal and Ledger all featured extensive coverage of high school sports.

Additional work of mine includes: Writing a regular blog on IndyCar racing ( for the last five years; a recent media relations internship at the Albuquerque Isotopes baseball club with an emphasis on feature writing for the club’s website and publications; and two years as a “guest columnist” for the website of Panther Racing.

In terms of skills, I am well-versed in AP style, Microsoft Office/Word/Excel, Corel Wordperfect, multiple blog publishing systems (WordPress, Movable Type, Blogger and Joomla) and social media (Facebook, Twitter and YouTube). I also have past experience with basic HTML and the CCI news production system.

I also have a willingness to learn essential new skills that can help a newspaper continue to be a valued news source for its readers. My official resume, writing samples and references are available upon request. Thank you for your time and consideration.
